Wichita Mid-Continent Airport is owned and operated by an administrative board created by the City of Wichita pursuant to the State of Kansas authorizing legislation.
The Wichita Airport Authority staff provides round-the-clock maintenance and police/fire protection. With an annual budget of $20 million, the Authority receives revenue from leases negotiated with airport tenants, as well as fees and charges collected from various concessions. No local or state taxes are collected for airport operation. Federal funds for capital improvement are derived from the Aviation Trust Fund through a special ticket tax, not general income tax. A Passenger Facility Charge was instituted in December 1994 for FAA-approved projects.
