Officials at Mid-Continent Airport are pleased to announce that an all-time record number of passengers utilized the airport in June 2004. During that month, 145,636 passengers arrived and departed Mid-Continent Airport - an 8.58% increase over June 2003. This record surpasses the previous record by nearly 2,000 passengers. The previous record was 143,709 set in July 1992. Passenger traffic for 2004 is on track for another record-setting year, with year-to-date passengers up almost 10% over 2003. More detailed statistics can be found at www.flywichita.com.

The continued increases in passenger traffic can be attributed to the low fares brought about by the entrance of AirTran Airways into the market in May 2002 and Allegiant Air in February 2003. U.S. Department of Transportation data collected from the airlines indicates that average domestic one-way fares at Mid-Continent decreased 34% since 2001, from $208 to $138. Low fares, the WIBC convention and a growing economy, have contributed to the increased passenger traffic in June.

Eight major airlines serve Mid-Continent Airport: AirTran Airways, Allegiant Air, America West Express, American Airlines/American Eagle, Delta Connection, Continental Express, Northwest Airlink, and United Airlines/United Express. These airlines provide nonstop service to 11 destinations: Atlanta, Las Vegas, Dallas, St. Louis, Chicago, Cincinnati, Houston, Memphis, Minneapolis, Phoenix, and Denver.
