Northwest Airlines Announces New Jet Service Between Detroit and Wichita, Kansas

Two daily flights begin Jan. 12, 2005

DETROIT - Northwest Airlines today announced new nonstop jet service between its hub at Detroit and Wichita, Kan. Two daily flights will be offered beginning Jan. 12, 2005.

With these new flights Wichita will now enjoy service to all three Northwest domestic hubs. The airline currently offers three existing daily flights to Minneapolis/St. Paul and three to Memphis, Tenn.

“Northwest Airlines is pleased to connect Wichita with its award-winning WorldGateway hub at Detroit,” said Tom Bach, vice president of market planning and Airlink. “Passengers traveling through Detroit will find hassle-free connections to hundreds of cities throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia. This new route builds on our commitment to Wichita and cities throughout the nation’s heartland.”

“The Kansas market is very pleased to be part of Northwest’s hub development and enthusiastically welcomes the additional connection options provided by the Detroit hub,” added Bailis Bell, director of airports for the city of Wichita.

The new service will be operated with Northwest Airlink partner Pinnacle Airlines Corp.’s Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ), which seats up to 50 passengers.

Including Wichita, Northwest has announced or has begun service to 11 new destinations from Detroit this year, bringing to 156 the number of destinations served from Northwest’s efficient and passenger-friendly WorldGateway hub.
