December 21, 2009 - The latest project to prepare for construction of the new terminal building began on August 25. The main road in front of Mid-Continent Airport will be realigned from south of Crossfield Road to the west end of the terminal building. The new roadway will serve the new terminal building. This project also involves the relocation of all utilities that serve the airport and to make a clear path for utilities to service the new terminal building.
Though traffic to the terminal will be maintained at all times, no parking will be allowed in front of the baggage claim area during the installation of duct banks. Motorists picking up arriving passengers should use the Courtesy Cell Phone lot, located south of the Park & Ride lot on Air Cargo Road. Follow the detour signs to reach the front of the terminal from the cell phone lot.
Some parking spaces on the south edge of the Short-Term Parking lot have been blocked off to accommodate the temporary relocation of the commercial ground transportation lanes. The rental car ready/return spaces for Dollalr, National, Thrifty and Enterprise formerly in the Short-Term lot have been moved to the southeast corner of the Long-Term lot to allow for the creation of more short-term parking spaces. Terminal Building employee parking moved to a remote shuttle lot at the north end of the Park & Ride Lot, which will be accessed off of Harry Street/Learjet Way. This project is expected to be complete by Spring 2010.
